Teaching Language through Cultural Heritage: Resources for Educators

This section provides open-access resources for educators, trainers, and cultural mediators who wish to integrate language learning with tangible and intangible cultural heritage education.

Developed through the Pillot project, these materials are designed to support inclusive, participatory, and culturally responsive education for adults with migratory and refugee backgrounds.

All resources are available for free download and adaptation under the project's open license.

Cities that Speak: Europe in Languages and Cultural Styles

Multilingual language-learning materials blend language learning with local culture and heritage through seven city-based chapters.

These innovative, multilingual educational materials blend language learning with local culture and heritage through seven city-based chapters.

Each chapter focuses on a different language: Romanian, Italian, Czech, Polish, French, Luxembourgish, or English, and is presented through the lens of a distinct artistic or architectural style in a different European city.

Designed as linguistic and cultural walks, the materials can be used both in the classroom and outdoors - in city streets, museums, libraries, or cultural centers, or as an interactive city guide for individual learners.

Developed using the principles of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and language immersion, these resources support migrant and refugee integration, social participation, and intercultural dialogue.

Repertoire of Language Education Approaches in the European Context

17 ready-to-use activities, expert reviews, methodological guide.

This Repertoire is a practical guide for educators, offering 17 ready-to-use activities that integrate language learning with cultural heritage.

Developed by 11 educators from Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Italy, and Luxembourg, each activity is methodologically structured with clear objectives, digital tools, and scholarly references. The document also includes expert reviews and an introduction by project coordinator Katarzyna Žák Caplot.

Finalized during the transnational training in Florence (July 2024), the Repertoire is an ideal source for both classroom, community-based and cultural institution settings learning.

Collection of Language Education Approaches in the European Context

70+ initial drafts, background and inspiration.

This Collection represents the foundational preparatory work of the PILLOT project, featuring over 70 initial activity drafts contributed by partners across Europe.

This collection served as the essential groundwork for the subsequent development of the more refined Repertoire of activities. Contributed by all partners from across Europe, these drafts were intended to explore innovative ways of integrating language learning with cultural heritage education.

During a dedicated meeting in Cluj, the team selected the most promising activities for further development. The Collection is a valuable resource for educators seeking inspiration and a behind-the-scenes look at the project's collaborative process.
